Serving children at risk
Our goals:
- To bring complete revival in lives of children.
- Teach Christian principles and values of life.
- work in unity with local churches, charitable agencies, governmental and nongovernmental organizations.
- Inform local community about current challenges faced daily by children, both locally and globally.
We reach this generation of children, showing fatherly love and care for orphans and children from disfunctional families, teaching them Christian values. Our desire - that children could use God-given skills and talents, as well as to preserve and pass them on to future generations. We want to see children that belong to risk group today praised Jesus Christ in the near future.
Serving children at risk of YWAM Ternopil began in 2000 with children who lived out on the street. We brought them food, clothes, spend time in fellowship, play sports, and we had a special time of Bible reading, reflecting on it and praying for children. We also started co-operating with the regional state shelter for younger children, running Christian programs, classes, which includes:
• amateur plays
• puppet show from the Bible stories
• creative games
• Bible Lessons
• Biblical cartoons and movies
Prayer is always an indispensable part of our time spent in the orphanage.
We have found that the best way is to build relationships with children.
We also creatively trying to tell about Jesus Christ and the Gospel.
This shelter is a public institution, offers accommodation for children who run away from home, or whose parents for various reasons are unable to exercise full custody. According to Ukrainian legislation, the children can stay in a shelter, a minimum of three days and up to three months maximum. During this period, the state is responsible for creating living conditions for children in crisis situations. All these children of different ages, they come and go almost every week, it depends - either their time in shelter is up, or the arrival of new children, or parents can come and take them home earlier. After the children leave, we offer them a correspondence study of Christian ethics, as well as they can write to us and their peers. By keeping correspondence with children, we have the opportunity to continue and develop relationships, learning about what is happening in their lives and how Christ has changed them. Some children write poems, some paint pictures describing their favorite hobbies and interesting events in their lives. We also encourage children to attend local church. We try to maintain communication with children, after they leave the shelter, exchanging addresses and phone numbers. Also, our goal is to visit them in their schools - boarding schools, and meet with them after graduation.
During our activity we have developed good relations and cooperation with 5 different institutions - boarding schools.
Purpose: To prepare children to be responsible and have dignity. In our many year experience we have witnessed how God has changed the lives of these children. But unfortunately there are those who remain under the influence of violence of the street life and they end up in jail. This encourages us to work even more eagerly in this ministry, so no one is left not knowing the message of salvation and God's love.
We have volunteers from various Evangelical churches of the city of Ternopil, who are actively involved in our ministry. They are very valuable to us, for the children and Jesus Christ.
Our desire and purpose to this ministry team has been trained and had the skills, abilities and experience working with children.
We also believe in the wisdom and the need to collaborate with local churches and organizations with the direction of working with children. The exchange ideas, values and resources with other organizations, thist is hard not to appreciate that when it comes to the interests and protection of children. First of all we are looking for collaboration and communication with organizations operating in the city of Ternopil.
